| My car has been sitting in a garage for 6 years. The car is in mint condition. I have not started in the past 6 years. I tried turning it over ocassionally but got a no start each time. If I have spark to the plugs, correct fuel pressure, firing injectors, new 93 octane gas( i flushed the old gas out), correct cylinder compression, and a brand new battery, why will it still not start! |

Well, you need gas, spark, and air for an engine to run, and you say you have gas and spark, so maybe the problem is something with the air? Like a vacuum leak or a clogged air filter or something related.

Mayhaps a family of mice has taken up residence in your throttle body?
Just a thought...

If it's a 924S, stop trying to crank it immediately.
You need to get the timing and balance shaft belts replaced before you try to start the engine because they are way overdue for replacement.
If either breaks, or jumps a single tooth, you're going to be $3000-$5000 into major engine repair. |

Hey,
does it make a diffrence if you push the clutch?
Couldt be that the clutch is rust-baked somehow.
Also check the airpath all-the way.....and last but not least your exhaust
pipe, maybe some kinds put a big potato in it........
Greetings,

| Check the cold start valve. Sometimes the car won't start if there's a disfunction in the csv. Check the voltaje at the csv when cranking. Is should be +12. Check also that the fuel pump is working. |

| thanx for the help guys. I found out that the distributor cap was put on backwards. once I swithced it over it started immediatly! after 6 years its running again! Its a little rough right now so I am assuming its because its just working out all the kinks. I only started it for about a minute and then I shut it off. Could any damage have occurred because of trying to start the car multiple times with the distributor cap on backwards? also i saw a tiny bit of smoke coming from the headers or engine block (couldn't really tell). is this a sign of the head gasket going bad? or just dust burning off the headers? the timing belt was changed right before my accident, so could it have gone bad by just sitting around for so long? (sorry for all the questions) |

The dissy cap being on backwards wont cause any long term effects.
Smoke and dust being blown of the motor is normal until it heats up and should disappear.
Belts are a must- change them ASAP! _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

if you were trying to start the engine excessively make sure to drain out the oil as it has probably has gas contamination. also if it was really excessive you could have oil starved the piston rings. I know I'm a little late for this one but you should always put a about teaspoon of oil in each cylinder and manually crank an engine a few times ifyour not sure if its going to start. _________________ 1958 356 (sold)
