Just picked up an '85 944 transmission for $375 (fair bit better than $1350 like a local mechanic offered). Sure its ratios aren't as sporty as inthe S transmission, but I wasn't exactly bouncing with glee with 3000rpm at 60mph anyway. So here's the question--should I go the extra mile here and replace the clutch assembly as well? And what will I need to bring the mech. to have him do it?
Also, if anyone wants a 924S transmission in working but at the edge of cataclysmic failure condition, I've got one!
P.S. Almost forgot, anything about the transmission that should be left to a porsche specialist, or is it all just standard? _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

Unlike most front engined cars, the tranny is not mounted to the motor's bell housing, so removing it is just the beginning of what has to be done to replace the clutch.
You will add about 4-8 hours of labor to the job and about $500 in parts (clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, throw out bearing tube, pilot bearing, release shaft bearings, and maybe the release shaft). _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

You can measure what's left of the clutch at the release arm, the procedure is in any 931/924S manual. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
