I stumbled across this auction: link to a k24 turbo to downpipe custom flange. Well this would allow an exhaust shop to bend up an exhaust downpipe for 924 Turbos, without the hassel of making a flange. I emailed this gentleman and asked him about doing the k26 turbo in our cars(i know theres two different types of gaskets used) and was going to have him make me one. We might be able to get a discount if someone else wants one.
Also I do have a local guy that would probably be willing, once he did my downpipe to make a few more of identical size if anyone was interested.
I think opening up the exhaust on these cars really helps. After I removed my muffler, I could feel/see a faster spool up, as well as some cool noises(turbo is louder). The downpipe on my car now is in good shape but looks to be crushed in an area and I'm sure thats not helping anything.
We could make the end of the downpipe universal so that you could slide a 3" or 2.5" pipe over it and wouldn't make it very difficult to continue building a custom exhaust.
Did I lose everyone through my rambling? Either way, I'm gonna have a flange cut. Maybe we could get a turbo to manifold flange made??? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Nice find.
I don't see how a turbo/manifold flange would help in our case since the turbo already sits so low. A flange/adapter plate would push it even lower. Unless I'm missing something, I would think an entirely new manifold would be required. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)

The exhaust manifold to turbo flange, was just a second thought. I brought it up to get some opinions.
The downpipe flange on the other hand would be beneficial. You could bring the flange and your car to an exhaust shop and have them build you a downpipe from the turbo back to the cat, or a test pipe, and if you wanted could build a full exhaust.
The gentleman I emailed gave me a price of $35 a piece, shipped, to anywhere in the US. The piece would be mild steel and fully cnc machined. He also said that if we were to get a group of 10 or so, the price would drop, close to 25 shipped per flange.
I'll be getting one made up for sure, so if someone else wants in, let me know.

Rasta, I will ask him about heat, but seeing as he's already made and is selling k24 flanges, I would assume the material he uses could withstand the temperature of a turbocharger. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |
