My 1977 924 with 110K kms on it wont start. I recieved it like this. I just fixed the:

timing
fuel pump
cold start valve
aux air valve
thermo time switch
battery
good spark
no air leaks I can find
injectors spray but not a perfect cone pattern
jumped the fuel pump relay

It hasnt run in atleast 5yrs, maybe 10yrs. It cranks over really slow. I think the starter needs to be rebuilt.

Question 1: Is there anything else mechanical that would cause the engine to turn over very slowly other than the starter?(other than the engine not running in so long)

I did a compression test and got 110, 120, 90, 85 psi. The last two scare me. But since the car hasnt run in a long time could the seals/gaskets be dry?

Question 2: Could the compression get better if I could start it and lube everything up via the oil pump?

Thanx for any help!

Make sure you have a good ground between the starter and the battery. This usually goes through the engine, so there are several places for corrosion to build up and make for a poor electrical connection.

Check the power (positive) wire as well to the starter/solenoid.

If the engine is only turning over slowly it's unlikely that the compression test is going to be accuate. To lubricate the cylinders on an engine that hasn't been started in a long time, remove the spark plugs and squirt a little oil into each cylinder. Try doing the compression test again after this.

Edited to correct cr@p typing!

I just got it running. It was the timing. My dad and I made a mistake when we reset the timing. Hopefully the compression goes up now that I can run it and get it to proper running temp.

Confused here.

How did getting the timing wrong cause the engine to crank slow?
