Looks like I am getting into my 3rd 924 on the weekend..this will be a track only car. The car has been sitting for around 8 years. The current owner has had the car running (crappy) a year ago.
What would be the best way to approach the fuel system in flushing, cleaning etc. before I try to start it?
Any other tips would help as well.
Thanks guys _________________ 1976 924

Don't you mean "crappily?"
The BEST way, if you have nothing but time on your hands, is to drain and remove the tank and give it a good cleaning. Then, when you replace it, run a fresh fuel filter and cross your fingers.
Also, a car sitting this long will likely be covered in vacuum leaks.

Definitely drain & try to clean the tank as best you can. Personally, I would then fill it with some fresh fuel and then go through each component - remove the out line from the fuel pump and run the pump until the fuel is clean, then do the same for the out line from the accumulator, then pull off the input line from the fuel dizzy and run the pump, etc., all the way up to the injectors. I wouldn't be surprised if you got a little gunk / old gas to come out at each stage.
I would also pull off the WUR and open it up and clean it the best you can. Plus, pull the fuel head and clean the piston and bore with a q-tip.
Don't forget to flush the brake fluid, coolant, and oil too!
By the way, which year is it? The early 77's were the lightest of the bunch. Manual windows / mirrors and such. And they don't have the door bracing that the later cars have - which you won't need if you build in a cage anyway. Just swap in a Euro motor and a 5-speed and you'll have a nice toy _________________ 1980 931S

Not sure how to do this..I guess I am about to learn

IIRC it is a 78 US spec car But i will re do the motor over the upcoming winter to Euro specs.
I will be pulling all the glass, tail lights, interior, headlights ...pretty much everything that is not needed to make the car run and drive.
BTW the tank will be pulled as well and replaced with a fuel cell as per the rules. _________________ 1976 924
