|
|
After a lot of hassle i have given up for now with fixing my electric sunroof.
I have spoke to a couple of auto electricians and they have all said they don't get involved in sunroofs...
So untill i find someone that will look at it i was wondering if there is a way you can manually remove it. I know how to tilt it up and down manually but not how to remove it.
Please help summer is on the way.... I hope |

Its been awhile but ircc you can hand crank it at the sunroof motor using an appropriate tool. there should be something on it in the owners manual. others can verify. _________________ Eric

I cannot even get mine to go up and down. The motor makes a noise but nothing happens. Unfortunatly I do not have an owners manuel to help either of us. But I would like to know as well. _________________ I would rather attempt to do something great and fail then to do nothing and succeed.

I think I need an exorcist.
Yesterday the radio wouldnt work.
The roof would only unlatch, wouldnt raise.
Today all fine. I think the ign switch is starting to be faulty on the acc.
The sunroof and radio are tied into the ign switch and can be the fault.
The roof gets power from the ign switch for both unlatching and raising
depending on the key position. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Drjones7575 Exactly the same happens with mine. I hear the motor but nothing happens. To be honest i am not too concerned with the tilting function working now to be honest i just want to be able to remove the whole thing.
The link Paul has posted will show you how to tilt the roof up and down but not remove. I wouldnt reccommend doing it too much unless you have the correct tool cos the previous owner seems to have made a mess of mine by using too small a screwdriver.
Ozzie I used to be able to tilt the roof but i have never been able to remove (no noise of a motor or anything), i know how to by turning the key position to the "on" position but it has never worked. You could be onto to something with the ign switch.
I'm guessing there is no way of manually removing (not tilting) the roof then? _________________ 1984 NA Guards Red |

The ign activates the roof relay which can also be faulty.
Fuses and wiring and there is a micro switch in the centre locating piece. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Get the roof up to its highest position, release the clips up front, get out, brute force it off. With the lifters fully extended they have a bit of wiggle room, so you can work it off once you've seen how it can come off. It's the same way to put it back on, basically rest the roof on the lifters, then jam it down.
It doesn't sound pretty and it's probably not the best thing to do for your car, but I did it for a few weeks before I knew about the way to do it properly and they're still fine.
So erm... "gentle" brute force may be the way to go.
P.S. Not sure if the lifter setup for the 924s is the same as earlier models, so this may not work for you. _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

If you have to raise them manually you should be able to retract the lifters the same way. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

The link above includes instructions for removing the roof, follow the "late model" instructions. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

How would i do this, as far as i can see the screw will only allow me to raise or lower the roof, not retract the arms?

The link only seems to show how to remove the roof in the correct way, which as mentioned doesnt work on my car. Not how to manually remove...

If all else fails i'll give this a go, although i think yours may be different if its a 1987 924S, i could be wrong though becuase it seems feasible that it would work.
Cheers for all the input guys. _________________ 1984 NA Guards Red |
