Has anybody swaped out the steering shaft from a 924 and used a 944?

The 924 (at least mine) seems based on the 914 design and the top bearing tends to wear out.

I bought (thank god for ebay) a shaft from a 944 and dimensionaly it seems the same but not sure..It has a different design and should be better.

Before I go tearing it all out I wanted to see if anybody else has tried this.

thanks.
