I finally got my car back from my mechanic (we S'poreans don't know a hammer from a spanner!). What was suppose to be checking a missing exhaust stud turned out to be a month long stay at the workshop! Along the way, they fixed:

1. Extracted and replaced exhaust manifold stud
2. Fixed oil slump oil leak
3. Fixed turbo oil feed leak
4. Replace steering rack boots
5. Replaced timing belt and bearing
6. Removed gearbox and fixed sloppy shifter
7. Replaced clutch disc
8. Installed WB 02 sensor (PLX devices)

In total it cost me ~USD1200, hearing which I almost didn't want to collect the car!

However, I must say if any of you have got a bad shifting transmission, you absolutely have to get it fixed cause the car feels AWESOME with a tight shifter! I used to crunch my 2nd and 3rd gears during shifts and was thinking of replacing the synchros. But after getting the clutch replaced and adjusted, and the shifter fixed, no more crunching! Just tight, precise shifts! This car has been in my family its whole life and I've never felt it shift like this before. Even after a complete overhaul by the agents 10yrs ago, it had the crunching problem. I don't know what my mechanic did but I LOVE IT!

I don't think he followed the workshop manual but the clutch pedal travel ends just above the floor in that it cannot be pressed all the way down to the floor. So it ends higher up and the clutch starts to bite very early. I'm thinking that maybe my problem with the crunching was because the clutch wasn't fully disengaged during shifting.

I was feeling kinda depressed with the car shifting so badly I was even considering selling it. Now it drives so well, I have start planning the efi and intercooler mods! More money down the 924 blackhole!
