Would an early 90s VW Jetta fuel pump (both external and internal) work for an 80 924?

no idea about the jetta. But I have been running a volvo pump in my 931 for some time, and it has worked out quite well.
you might look up the specs for the jetta pressure range of the pump/system and see if it checks out with your car.
Putting in a wrong pump could cause issues other than poor performance, so you should be cautious.
also, the tech section has a listing of the interchangeable parts on our cars.

cheers,

colin

If it's from an EFI Jetta then no way.

If it's from a CIS Jetta then possibly, but unlikely.

The problem is that the 924 system pressure is very high, even for CIS (which generally runs at a much higher pressure than EFI anyway). The fuel pump needs to be able to supply the full flow rate and still be able to maintain a pressure of about 100 psi.

If you can swing $125, you can get a Pierburg external. . .good quality pump.
