|
|
Hey guys,
I recently bid on this 924 on eBay. I lost the auction, but later received a 2nd Chance Offer stating that the original buyer couldn't pay. I accepted the offer, but since then I have been given reason to believe the auction is a fraud. The seller requested payment through a really screwy escrow site which is not affiliated with eBay, but uses their logos. He also stated that the car has since moved from California to New York, but offered to ship it to me in NV for free.
Just a heads up in case it gets listed again. Buyer beware!!

(Item number: 150112169416 if that link doesn't work)
Cheers, Danny
P.S. - If anyone has a 77 in comparable condition for sale I may be interested. _________________ 1977 294 n/a

I just received notice from eBay informing that the seller's account had been revoked, and warning me against making payment for the item. I guess my suspicions were valid. _________________ 1977 294 n/a

Fake 2nd Chance Offers are the newest widespread scams on eBay.
Scammers look at auction Bid Histories and email the Unsuccessful Bidder/s claiming that the other Buyer/s were Scammers or Joy Bidders, and that the Seller is willing to make you a 2nd Chance Offer and a great Deal if you are willing to buy the item directly from him/her. I have been getting one or two of these Fake 2nd Chance Offers a day this past week or two.
You can avoid a rip-off by contacting the Seller through the eBay Message System to ask if the Seller really sent the message. Many times a Legitimate Seller will contact "Back Bidders" by email, and not immediately send an Official eBay "2nd Chance Offer" because there may be some changes in the item/s or what is included, or another similar (but not identical item) is available, and the Seller wants the Potential Buyer to know that there is a difference before posting the 2nd Chance Offer.
I do this myself because in my computer business I often have similar laptops available (but not exactly the same). At the end of one of my eBay auctions, if I get bids that are high enough, and I do not have additional laptops that are exactly the same, I will contact the Bidders that have bid high enough, and send them information on the other laptop/s I have that they might be interested in. If the Bidder/s and I can agree to a price, I go ahead and send him/her/them eBay 2nd Chance Offer/s. |

I've received offers before trying to sell me items similar to what I've bid on. This time though, the 2nd chance offer was initiated through eBay from the original seller of the item. It was the offer of free shipping from New York to Nevada that initially made me suspicious, then when I received the "invoice" from the supposed escrow service I knew it was no good.
I was really excited about the purchase too. I wanted that car!!! I guess I'll just have to invest that $3400 into my current 924, though I don't think it will get it to the condition of the one pictured in the auction. _________________ 1977 294 n/a
