Has anyone tried re-chipping their 931? Has it made a difference and how much did it cost?
Thanks |

Hey what's all this talk about re-chipping the computer? Most of us, after dropping the computer once, have learnt our lesson and just don't do it again. Be careful out there peeps! _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Ok, that was hillarious, but now the real answer - there is no chip to replace on the 931. That business started with the 944-924S Motronic engine management. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

No Rasta, you can't sell that little piece that broke off the corner for $450 here. Take it to eBay or the Cars and Parts Wanted/For Sale section.

The company I found is called Upsolute. They don't really re-chip the computer, they claim to reprogram it. They admit to not having done a 931 but don't see why it could not be reprogramed.
What do you think? |

Isn't the 931 similar to the 924 in that regard? It has mechanical fuel injection, the fuel delivery is totally determined by airflow past a pressure plate. There is no computer control for the fuel delivery, so there is nothing to re-program. Yes, there is a fuel pump relay, but that is essentially an on/off device, not a computer. That is my understanding. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

<groan> Ignorance is bliss.
They fundamentally don't know what they're talking about, that's all there is to it. They don't see why not? That's because they fundamentally don't even know what kind of engine management it even has.
Any chip activity would be only reprogramming the ignition, and that would be foolish; it'd be dumb or at least unwise to do anything to ignition without changing any other engine operating parameters (octane, fuel delivery, boost, etc), and modding the stock computer would be the least effective and efficient way to go about it - far better to use modern technology, like, say, a Megajolt???
These guys have no idea what they're even trying to sign up for. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Replace the turbo boost spring. Ask Soyracer he has one and I bought one from him. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

It sounds like a resounding 'don't do it'. Thanks everyone. I will pursue the more typical route.

It says that YOU CAN'T DO IT, BECAUSE THERE IS NO ECU on 931! _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Even better, if you can find one of the rare JDM ECU's, they pop up some times on Ebay... _________________ Vaughan Scott
