how much is normal whine from the transalxe, it seem every 924/944 I have been in has a slight whine from the axle, under load it's there coasting, gone
is this normal?

The whining is pretty much normal. I've heard (read) that it can vary depending on what type of gear oil you use - with the thinner synthetics being somewhat noisier, and reg'lar ol' dino quieter.
If you like the sound, remove the hatch area carpet and underlayment. With that, you won't be able to hear yourself think.  _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
