Well I was going to take the car for a spin, upon lowering the car of jacks I noticed that both the right and left side strut seals have disintergrated, when I turn the steering wheel it kicks out and engages the horn and wiper washer.
Is it likely that there is something else in the strut tower that will be needing replacing whilst Im at it so I can order parts at the same time??
As a note the A arms all have new bushes, new tie rods and new ball joints new sway bars bushes and drop link bushes...

I dont see how the strut tower hats could cause the horn or the wipers to come one.
the strut tower hat is supersceeded to a 944 part # _________________ 3 928s, |

The strut mounts are easily replaced as a whole unit, good time to do your dust boots and bump stops if they are worn our or cracked. I think you can get all these parts for buttons from www.autohausaz.com
They also have a lot of resto items such as OEM windshield washer nozzles, the guage cluster lightbulbs, etc... Dirt cheap of course. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

In my second post here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=9397 , I listed the parts that were replaced when I re-did the upper strut bearings. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

While you are in there, I would make sure that the spacers that Porsche specified installed (read Porsche Tech Bulletins) to help prevent the upper spring perch from contacting and grinding on the strut mount when the rubber portion of the upper strut mount/bushing collapses.
I would also upgrade from the rubber travel stop and separate strut boot to the single rubber bellows strut cover and travel stop (priced between $15 and $20 each). The full length bellows covers the entire strut shaft to keep road trash from collecting and damaging the strut shaft, and seal. |

Lizard, Yeah it's a tricky one and I do not fully understand it myself... knowing very little about struts in general I can only go by observation and I am having a hard time myself, I am thinking along your lines that the strut problem is a totally different problem, it needs addressing anyway.
I am however thinking that the alingment of the steering rack on the lower crossmember might actually be the main problem, it may require vertical shifting as the knuckle may not be in the right alignment when I bolted it back in place.
What is happening though is that the steering column will move towards the driver by about 1cm and cause the collar that sits in front of the upper bearing to get driver into the switch gear and close the contacts on the washer stalk... bizarre eh... it quite strange to watch it happen too...
Unless there's crap in the rack or the knuckle is bent or something else I'm at a loss to how something that's perfect when removed can operate so wrong on refitment....
I'm taking the car in for an alignment at any rate so I'll let some pro's sort it out...
Thanks guys, in the pic smoothie it's the seal oabove the red coloured part that has disintegrated but there's definately sideways movement in the centre nut so something aint right...
