I am going to put a radio into the car. It has 2 front and 2 rear speaker outlets. What do I use for the front speaker in the car? Right or left or both? Then I was thinking of putting 2 6" speakers in the wood paneling in the carpet in the hatch area. Has anyone done this? Any reason why I should not do this?
Thanks, _________________ Rob

i have thought of doing this are you talking about the place behide the seats nere the arch if yes then the reson i have not done this is i hear that you have to remove the glass, to get the panel off. dont know for sure as i have not taken mine out to see but i think i remember reading it on this site _________________ 1985 Porsche 924LUX 2 ltr N/A

I'm not sure what you mean in "the wood paneling". If you mean the place that 924lux mentions then he's right about taking the window out, but some guys have done it without;do a search for it.
Regarding that centre speaker, I wouldn't attach both wires as you'll double the voltage. Neither of my 924s have a centre speaker so I'm interested about how they did attach it to the radio. _________________ 1983 - 924 (185K miles) - not mint

The “wood paneling” is what covers the space by the rear quarter panels, where the rear sunroof drain tubes go down into. My carpet has some wood to hold it flat above that space.
I guess I will just hook one side to the front speaker. This is the speaker in the dash. _________________ Rob

Rob: If you hook up two speakers in the doors, two under the rear window and two more in the ply covers and then try to hook up the center speaker, you WILL, I guarentee, rip a hole in the time-space continuom. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Two in the doors, two in the rear quarter panels. Job's done. Forget the centre speaker (or put a sat nav in the recess! ) _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

I don't have a spot to put speakers in the doors. Also, I will only deal with 3 or 4 speakers as I don't want to rip a hole in the time-space continuom. A co-worker ripped a hole in the time-space continuom and he hasn't been the same since! _________________ Rob

In the center console where the old 4x6 went I put in two 2.5'' (3'' would work too) speakers. I found some Panasonic 2.5'' tweeters in some old huge-wood-dawn-of-time speakers. (you old guys know these type speakers) I put both side by side and put them in under the front. It works perfect. It sounds great. They are capable of a full range of sound. I then added some good three way 4x6's in the stock rear speaker area. That helped flesh out the lower frequencies. Instead of popping out the window, I cut out around the little dimples and got to the rear speakers. I added the new speakers and put on a speaker cover to hide the hole. It looks really good. (I didn't know how to pop out the window at the time)
In my old 924 I put in round speakers in the door, and some round speakers in the wood area covering the rear wheel well. The acoustics sucked though. Putting speakers in the well area makes them sound like crap. The cargo area is hard to fill with sound. You will not like the results if you do what you plan. It sounds funny. I tried all sorts of combo's of speakers in the cargo area, and all of them sounded like crap. It would take big speakers and an amp to make it sound right. Putting speakers in the door is not smart. I didn't like my leg vibrating all the time either. _________________ Shut up fool, those are mine. |

i put 5 inch splits in the place of the stock speakers. fit beautifully. the tweeters are jsut screwed to the board and point towards the front of the car. didn't even pop out the window. simply was very careful as i pulled the whole thing apart, then squezed the vinyl back under the window trim carefully with the back of a thin knife.
I mounted the amp on the back of the rear seat (the fold down bit), so it works with the seat up or down (its down most of the time). now i just gotta find a nice little 8inch sub and enclosure to fill out the bass notes.

Ive made my own panels for under the side windows
and the rear hatch area now just need to continue it across the rear taillights.. then make something over the rear seat area. Batteries
in the spare tire hole.. dont have any idea where the speakers will be.
I need to make panels for the front foot well sides..still.
things be looking up on the inside. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
