A fellow over on Rennlist had a new dash gauge bezel made form carbon fiber and is wondering if anyone else might be interested in one.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=329549

I thought I would cross post it over here for him since he is not a regular. FWIW I have nothing to gain from this except maybe saving a few bucks on my bezel if we increase the number of units being ordered.

Anyone else interested in changing things up?

Thanks Nemesis. Hello 924.org folk. The one I have was made out of aluminum actually (pictured), but I have been discussing with the cluster's creator about making a limited run out of CF. It is not my business but am trying to get a sense as to interest to see if it makes sense to make a limited run. Thanks for your time and indulgence. Michael

What do you think it will cost to fabricate, seriously? Thanks. Michael

Wow, cluster and steering wheel in the first pic really go together well; definitely wouldn't mind getting my hands on that setup. A CF cluster would be out of my price range though.

That one in the first pic is an aluminium (aluminum) prototype isn't it? Unless I read the rennlist thread wrong.

I'd rather have that than the CF version. Carbon-fibre is soooo last-year.

You would paint over $50 worth of carbon-fibre

Seriously, we could get Joe to make a wooden male mould and then with a $1 piece of alu sheet and a mallet and a couple of hole-cutters you could beat one out in 5 minutes.

well i'd use CF for the lightness...not for the texture...so yea i would paint it. But its how you said...Joe could make a very light one very cheap and nice.

We are just talking the bezel with our old gauges right?

I mean it would be cool to replace all the gauges with autometer ones, but then the milage and everything will be lost and selling the car will be harder.

Could always pay a shop to put in the odo and have them put the final mileage on record if reselling is an issue. Though that probably wouldn't be worth the hassle; if you're the type of person who keeps accurate service records, people would probably trust you on the mileage as well.

As I suggested in the RL thread I propose these be made blank, and the end user can configure and install whatever gauges he/she sees fit. Cutting composite is easy, easier than aluminum.

As for painting over the CF...yes without a doubt. CF is great, and strong, but it is ugly.

For anyone interested in the carbon fiber pods, the facilitator has posted a new feeler thread http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=331510

Basics of group buy......$200 each, minimum for group buy 10, pre pay orders only. See link for further details.

If you are interested in getting in please post here, or if you visit RL you can post there too.

Please PM or email Michael (ninefofo on RL, and Metafly here) to set up/pay for order.

IMHO this little number combined with a 928leathershop dash is about as good as these old interiors can get for a face lift. I hope we can get enough interest to move forward on this.

Cheers!

Ouch.. $200 seems steap. Plus being blank, I certainly wouldn't trust myself drilling into carbon fiber..

Maybe if my 21st birthday/tax return pays out big enough..
