ive found a 924 turbo that is being broken Yippee! and want to stick the motor and turbo in my 924 its the law!, the waste gate is missing tho (will a dump value replace it?) and the exhast gone too..maybe use my old one?do they all have intercoolers as that must have gone too..bonnet has a scoupe on it..?any ideas?
The head has valve stuck in it and wedged bucket rammed in head think cambelt went wondering the best and cheepest way to fix it will it as can get it all for about 100 pounds and another hear for 65quid,was going to take the block pistonsairflow meter and everything i can find and shove it all in mine..I dont really know much about turbos starting to wonder the best cheepest options for more power! need a cheep head gasket too..etc..Adam _________________ NO RISK NO FUN.. |

its not just a drop in replacement, doesnt work that way. just about every system that makes the turbo go, is different than the n/a 924 and will need to be changed over or modified. Not trying to rain on your parade, but be prepared to spend some major dollars and tackle some headaches if you really want to try this swap. But if you do get it done, please keep us posted on your progress  _________________ Eric

I am with 924Guy on this one. This topic has literally been beaten to death by non-turbo owners. There are some great mods that you can do to a N/A 924. For example install a 931 head, different cam, four carbs or individual throttle bodies. All I am say is better to use your money improving what you already have which is a running 924.

well well well so what happens next..
(a) i buy the turbo motor and spend the rest of my life trying to figure out how the f**k it works and wonder if id get more power from (b)alternative
(b)need more info on what head carbs and cam will fit my 924(is this more power than the turbo idea ?)or..
(c)(well it dosent starts very well anyway.. have swapped cold start valve, air flow and fuel metering valve) is the fuel relay inportant as its got a jump wire stuck in it with a normal grey 42 wiper relay thing in it)also had fuel pressure tested and its losing pressure really quickly when pump is switched off..HELP?
also its got a gas conversion too which seams to fire up better on..so do I have to take this off if i run a turbo (as its dirt cheep to run..!half the price of petrol!) _________________ NO RISK NO FUN.. |

Not to be a naysayer, but there aren't all that many graet mods to do with a NA 924. A 931 head is a major hurdle and requires a a complete engine rebuild anyways. Even so you're looking at maybe 160hp if you want driveability.
To swap in the turbo motor, you will NEED the complete engine, including fuel system, ignition system (unless you swap for standalone fuel injection). You'll need the exhaust as well, at least the downpipe, wastegate piping etc. The transmission and torque tube are different.
If you find a complete 931 and can steal all of the relevant parts, it IS a bolt in swap. There will be a few minor wiring differences The body shell is the same. Depending on the year of the cars in question, you may have troubles bolting up the 931 transmission to your rear suspension assembly. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Converting to a hydralic clutch is NOT a bolt-in swap. Everybody always forgets about that in these discussions
You cannot swap a 931 engine into a 924n/a without addressing the clutch which is a significant hurdle.
Ever notice the number of posts starting off with "I can get a complete turbo engine, I just need to swap it out for my n/a engine"? Has anyone ever seen someone actually accomplish this?

I did the clutch conversion and most likely I'm going to do this again on the other car

I was thinking about this a bit, and I beleive many people have the impression that this swap is like swapping a 260 cid small block olds for a 350 long block. flip the mounts and everything else just goes right in the way the old one came out besides a bit of fiddling with some cables.
what i was refering too above was the difficulty level. lets call a straight engine swap a one (same engine size/displacement.) adding an aftermarket turbo kit if you could find one (like an old BAE kit) would be a four maybe. building your own turbo kit or supercharger around a six or seven, depending on your knowledge and skills. doing a complete n/a to turbo would shoot it up to a eight or so i think, and then there using a different engine manufactureer, which id put at a difficulty level of ten being the most complicated. maybe that makes more sense here...
just trying to get across that these projects arent just a matter of swapping parts, they can get very invovled and before anyone starts, they should understand that and be prepared. most vehicles can be greatly improved with bolt on kits , the 924 isnt one of them when your talking hp gain imo. not that it cant be done, it just takes allot more dedication than a chevy would... _________________ Eric

Any ideas on what head would fit my 924 if i want to use a 16 valve head and wear I can get bigger cams and which digital fuel injection system is best to convert and how its done ? also may run a turbo as well? and will it run on gas as it has lpg convertion ? _________________ NO RISK NO FUN.. |
