Hey everyone,

So my car's been running pretty well all things considered, but it's getting to be winter time and I'm wishing I had a heater. I got on and searched through old posts and thanks to some really helpful ones, now I have a heater fan that actually turns. Here's my problem that I couldn't find an answer to:

Mainly, the little flap over the fan won't lift up. I got under my dash and found the cable that controls it, and even though the slide lever moves the cable, the cable housing isn't attached anywhere, so the cable just flexes in and out and doesn't move the lever. Did something break, or am I just missing something obvious? Anyone else had that problem?

Another thing - the lever to control the valve into the heater core is really hard to move. I tried to move the valve manually and it's really stiff. Can I clean that and make it work again, or do I just need to get a new one?

Thanks guys.

On the valve control, I greased the valve itself in the engine compartment, as well as the exposed end of the cable (wire), and it loosened up quite a bit.

Thanks - I'll give that a shot. I managed to machine a new mount for the cable housing and got the cable working that opens the fan hatch. As long as I can get the coolant valve working, I'll be set to go.

The coolant valve is (was) a very cheap part and will cause the cable mounts to self-destruct when it gets hard to move. Check the price for a new one before you waste time on the old one.
