I've read Tom15's post about his problem and have searched for clues, the problem with my trans, '78 924, is when I go to take off in first it starts to move then BAM!, it starts grinding like I'm tyring to put it gear without the clutch so I slowly take off in second and it's fine there.
I whent to change the gear oil and only about a cup, 8oz, came out, not good, upon draining I dug out with my finger a few metal frags, topped it off and still makes the grinding sound. My guess is either the first gear or the synchro?? I have my eye on another trans also. Tim

you will need to replace the first gear dog teeth and possibly more, best to just replace as you probably have the 4 speed.
