Started my new cooling setup
I had to cut the chassis to fit it in, but going to weld it up stronger, and add a bracket for a splitter.
Damn thing is 26" Wide and has a huge Spal Fan.
Both the intercooler and the rad together is 6" thick.
It just fits vertically, touching the hood at the top, and level at the bottom with the engine bay floor pan.
I cut away ALL the metal behind the old intake ducting, so that the air above the bumper gets to go only to the top half of the radiator. This should work nice as the radiator is a double pass, so each pass gets it own air.
Heres some pics;
This is my new setup next to my old setup.
Finally got the bugger in.
Room for a v8 in there:)

Do you have any info on the fan you are using? Size, cfm, amp draw? I want to replace my stock dual fan setup with a slimmer aftermarket setup.

good question 
I don't want to use pins and clips, not on a street car anyway, was thinking of getting another hood catch and using one either side of the radiator.
I ruined a car once by having the hood fly up 
Any ideas? |

Just as a point of reference I believe the stock 924 radiator is very close to the same size as OOTB's FMIC! This will give you an idea how friggin big that radiator is. I can't believe you got it to fit

dual hood catches would be nice but really hard to setup,
hood pins may be the only way to do it.

was thinking a strip of 5mm tick Ali plate, bolted under the hood where the existing pin was, then rivet either side.
Then fit 2 standard 924 catches, either end.
The bay side is easy, as I'm going to make a "cage" out of ali square tube, to reinforce the front section, and also scoop the air to each pass of the radiator.
You can see the square tube in the photo. Its 3mm thick and when you box weld it, it can take the weight of the entire car.
Also I can mount the GTR style lights to the section that crosses the entire bay(above pic).
I will post some picks of axle stands I made using the square tube Ali. Its stiffer,stronger and 10 times lighter than 2mm steel. You just have to "float" it to your chasis by welding thin steel "tabs" then mount your structure to these tabs.

Cool I will go for that style, if It becomes too much of a mission using 2 catches.
Thing is,,,,I forget to latch my hood a couple of times a year.
Especially if someone else has been checking your motor out.
I had a beautiful VW Scirroco that I had the bonnet come up at 70mph, it pulled the whole front firewall up, car was unrepairable
I need something that always latched when the hood is put down slowly. |

Closer look at fan.
Materials I'm going to be using;
22mm x 22mm x 3mm Square Tube Aluminium
2mm Aluminium Sheet
I removed all this from the front;
Heres a center console I made from the same aluminium, going to make a similar structure to hold everything together up front.
I first used this square tube for a dashboard project, and was astounded by its strength. The console shown weighs the same as the hammer.

looks good OOTB, I actually have one of those fans cooling my 928 now and it isnt quite enough I have a second one I will be installing as well, will go on at the same time as boost.

twin turbo ?
I want to get a 928, after I finish my 931. |
