Hey guys,
In my new 924, the one with the vortec, The shifting seems to really suck. It is not smooth, and its extremely hard to get it into reverse and 4th gear. It still has the stock 4 speed, btw. I replaced the shift lever, the PO told me that it was the problem. I've noticed a few things; When in reverse, it is in an odd position compared to my other stock 924. Also when in neutral it is not at the 80 some degree angle haynes says it should be. There is alot of play when it is in gear as well.
Any Ideas? My thought is that it could be that shift rod or w/e, between the shift lever and the actual gearbox. Its really rusty, and I'm thinking it's bent or something causing the odd geometry.

I'd say check to make sure everything is straight, but it'll be a total bitch! LOL. IIRC, you can't even see the shift linkage until it comes out just above the tranny. It's been a while though.
O, and maybe drain the fluid and put new transmission oil in, maybe it doesn't have enough. |

What about the clutch, Ryan?
How did the previous cowboy, sorry, owner marry the Audi(?) 'box to the Vortec engine? _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

My 924 had also problems with shifting when bought it. After supervision of roadworthiness tests - specifying, shock test - first, fourth and rear gear were lost for good. The guy from who I bought it fix the problem and it was a very simple problem - the shift lever components down below where the gearbox is, was loos. Reinstalling a simple cap screw and I got all the gears back It might not be the same problem in Youre case but it is worth climbing under the car and cheking for loos components/ cap screws.
Best of luck finding the poltergeist!
EDIT: or maybe the gearbox pad`s are worn out _________________ Porsche 924-79-2,2L |

Hey all,
Thanks for the responses. The audi box is maited with a modified corvette bellhousing which was supplied by renegade. Im pretty sure nothing is wrong with the clutch or the actual gearbox itself. Im still thinking it has something to do with the shifter and shift rod geometry, maybe your right that its a loose something or other. Ill have to check it out.

| Maybe a bushing came apart, is there another rod you can replace? Like a lower one? |
