I already have a fairly new throw -out bearing & good enough
pressure plate .. the pilot bearing was replaced with - in this
last year & regreased with lithium grade 3 grease just last week.

Raise the car and place all 4 corners on jack stands.

By a new clutch this one is a sachs # 047141031c

Being no-expert by know means of the word Ill take good suggestions
if any of you have them.
I did this before though I cant remember if I pulled the bellhousing back
or disconnected the torque from the bell then pulled back & dropped the bell..
I think it was the latter of the two. I don't have a clearance issue
with the 5spd hitting the spare tire well either ( I hope). What do you guys think
think Ill be able to pull it off.. in a reasonable amount of hours. All
that Ive done so far is put it on the four stands in the garage. Right now
its 31 degrees outside I want some heat real bad I have a small space heater
electric model though Ive seen those propane tank mounted
heaters at big lots or wall-mart think Ill try the space heater
then go get that propane mounted heater.
Time frame for this project is open though
I'm thinking should be done by saturday sometime.

Fine looking gumbo Joe! Makes my mouth water!

I can't think of any reason it would not work. Can the shifter be removed from the top though? I would definetly pull the tube from the bell as you said. Good luck.

Here's the plan first though I'm gonna try not to remove the cross-member just lift the motor and take the weight off the mounts then loosen axle shafts & the shifter then the 4 bolts to the torque tube to bell housing then loosen the tranny bolts and set up the floor jack to it and tie it to the jack then lift up on the jack being careful not to crush the brake line to the left rear wheel after this it all should slide back about 100mm for the next steps.

Well yea it was tasty the gumbo in the pic was cooking we ate about 15 minutes later any its 11:30 pm ..and Im done for the night Im ready to pull the bell housing though heres how I went about it.

First took the support off the motor mounts.

Disconnected the clutch cable.

Took the shifter out

Then removed the axle shafts & supported them.

Supported the tranny and removed the tranny mounts
and then removed the 4 bolts holding the torque tube to
the bell housing.

Then pulled back on the tranny while wiggling it from side to side
then went up to the torque tube and using a big wedge I just pushed it back it was easy.

The bell housing is ready to remove. Look at all that clearence.

The trick here is you can loosen up the bell housing
then loosen the pressure plate.

Then without removing the pressure plate drop the old clutch out
as shown in the last pic. In stalling the new clutch is pretty much the
reverse. I didn't have to mess with the front end at all ... though I
am worried cause I move the tranny back so far I went out and bought a 2 ton bottle jack to raise the torque tube up I originally got the bottle jack
to maybe lower the motor so the bell would drop out though that would of been a much .. much harder job. That's it. Hey whats to eat.

Its so positive to have a brand new clutch adjusted right..

I got under the car under the car with the inspection plate off and the car running and looked at the clutch whilst Terri pushed on
the pedal it moved releasing though not enough to get er in gear.. I ended up using paper thin washers under the pressure plate
to get it to release The first size were too thick I had to do
this twice. I haven't answered about adjusting it seems simple
enough right. well I couldn't get my clutch to disengage enough to get it
in gear has something to do with me rebuilding the carrier
that keeps the clutch pedal in place when I rebuilt it it moved a little.

In short I had too much clutch .. after moving up and down the clutch cable adjuster and making the cable longer at the firewall with
spacer which I removed.

I finally got it to work whilst listening to the trojans beat
michigan that was a good game I like the Trojan's.
