Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Queensland Australia where I can get a full test on my 1980 924.
It only comes out to play every so often and lately looses power on inclines.

get a compression check to start with. most any shop should be able to do it.
losing power under load(ie an incline) is usually a loss of compression, wether a valve sticking or head gasket going. a compression check will show if one these is the case. if it is the case its only one test(much cheaper). if it's not the case then the shop can start other diagnostics(ie fuel, air, spark, etc.) _________________ 1982 924 NA 85K owned since 1992

G'day! Another Aussie and a Queenslander to boot!
Where are you, mate? I'm in Brisbane. There's two other 'board members here in Brisbane, one in Toowoomba, one in Townsville.
I've found T&D in Bowen Hills, here in Brisbane to be very knowledgeable. But they can be expensive on repairs. Good blokes, but pricey.
Anyways, let us know where you are and we can probably sort something out for you. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

A few years ago I had the same problem with my non Porsche car. It turned out it was a partially blocked fuel filter. It worked fine 80 percent of the time, however under load or stress the car would quit. It took 4 mechanics and several hundred dollars to figure it out. On the 924 make sure you are running good fuel and of course change the filter. It may solve your problem.
Cheers

Did ya have a dodgy auto or slipping clutch?
Seems strange that a gearbox caused your problems.
Glad to hear its all fixed and back on the road. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Manual .... The clutch wasnt slipping at all, it was just that because of its age , I didnt realise that it was supposed to take up so soon.

I will try to find the receipt in the next couple of days to give you an idea.
From memory about $1600 all up.
