| The problem is that even with the key out of the ignition switch the accessories (basically the stereo) stay on. This has been happening occasionally for a few years but now it's pretty much constant. I'm pretty sure the problem is the lock cyclinder else it's the ignition switch. Either way I'm running a little low on funds at the moment and it's a pain in the arse sourcing parts here so what I'm thinking of doing is wiring the accessories relay switch to the power windows replay switch so that the accessories only come on when the key is turned to the on position. What I'd like to know is is this safe or going to cause any problems? |

Most likely an ignition switch problem. They can go bad like that (actually either no radio or radio all the time - in my case, I had no radio unless I lifted the keys up a bit) - a common cause of the failure is too-heavy keys.
Both the radio and seat belt warning relay are on that key-in "Su" terminal of the ignition switch. You could take the re/bk wire from "Su" and move it over to either the "x" or "15" terminal of the ign switch. -Or to go through the window relay, power just the low-current electromagnet pull-in part of the radio relay ("85") from the "85" terminal of the window relay. -That would be easiest - just remove the original wire from radio relay "85", then jumper wire "85" to "85" between the relays.
Actually, it could be the radio relay that's bad, so just swap those relays first to see if the problem moves to the windows before doing any re-wiring. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

| Thanks. That's exactly what I'm planning on doing with the relays. Already tried swaping the relays but same result with the radio on continuiously. My car doesn't have a seat belt warning light and as far as I can tell only the radio is activated with the key in. I did think about changing the wiring at the ignition switch but it seems that jumping the relays will be easier to do and reverse later. |
