OK so I'm a total idiot and removed the distributor with out marking it in relation to the cap and the distributor housing. I put the distributor back in and of course it would not start. I don't have any spark at all. I put the #1 piston and TDC and still no spark. I'm now lost due to my stupidity, any helpfull info would be greatly appreciated.

Next to the cable entry on the rim of the distributor is a timing mark.
Put the crank on TDC
Install the dist and ensure the rotor button is pointing to this mark.
Install the cap and make sure the mark and button are pointing to no 1 lead and the order in CW is 1342.
This should start enough to get a timing light on it an adjust to your specs.

If it doesnt start remove the leads and put them on 4213.

Thanks for the help. I'm assuming that "CW" means clockwise around the distributor cap, correct? Also, the rotor button is the contact edge of the rotor? Am I setting the "TDC" on the #1 cylinder?

Thanks.

Yes, TDC on #1 cylinder. There is a mark on the oil pump pulley which lines up with an arrow on the oil pump when #1 is at TDC. There is also a mark on the back of the cam sprocket that lines up with an arrow on the camshaft cover when #1 is at TDC.

Thanks a lot everyone. This should help a ton. I originally pulled the distributor because the car died when it's running. I can drive the car and after about 10 minutes, it just shuts off like I turned the key off. Has anyone else ran into this situation?

I would be checking the fuel pump is still running when the car dies, also check the fuel pump relay with this issue,

could also be the ign switch

Had that happen a few years back. It was the fuel pump relay. Do you have a spare?

The fuel pump will still run after the car dies, but it just cranks and cranks without firing. It will start again anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes after shutting off. I always have an extra relay, sometimes i wish I could just bypass the relay.

Remeber the when you put the key in the igntioion and turn it on the other side of the lock is a plasctic key way type deal ..
well it wears out causing the car to die.
