Pulled the dash out few weeks ago, but finally got to it as i went to Europe for a few weeks on holidays. Dash is in pretty bad shape, cracked with many dips, very uneven surface.

I stripped all the vinyl of it and found there there were quite a few dips in it.

So i decided to get some Polyurethane foam in the can and use that to level those dips out. I started today and some of it worked out good, but i haven't finished yet. Going to finish sanding down that foam tomorrow.

The grand plan for the dash is to fiberglass over it then paint it. I want to keep same design of the dash, i might need to change center console though, not sure yet. All i know is that there is a lot of work ahead of me.

Is that just the standard hardware store gap-filler expanding foam you're using?

Really interesting. Keep the photos coming.

yeah its from hardware store, but it's not regular filler foam, its Polyurethane foam, pretty much only foam that will not melt under fiberglass resin and hardener. its mostly used for molding

How hard is it to get the dash out? Did the side panels or wiring get destroyed in the process?

getting the dash out is very easy. Just follow instructions from Clark's Garage. I think there is only 6 screws and one bolt, took me no longer than 40 mins, and thats with taking all hardware (steering wheel) and wiring off. Nothing was damaged in the process.

did some more foaming and sanding today, dash should be ready for fiberglassing tomorrow, but i don't think i will start until wednesday or thursday. As u can see there are some holes in white foam but thats good as it will act as anchors when i lay the resin down. Everything seems leveled now. Much better than what it was before. Now i just have to sand the rest of the dash to open up all the pores in the old foam.

Might want to be sure to label wiring and things when you remove the dash. Keep track of the hardware.

interesting idea Qky.
I think i am just going to paint it, something low gloss to prevent too much reflection.

Got my fiberglass supplies today, might start tomorrow.
