I have an '88 924S with a non-working tachometer. All other gauges and electrics on the car work properly. Neither the tach needle nor the CAGS light operate. When I tap on the dashboard above the tach, the needle will bounce so it's not physically stuck. Before I begin taking things apart and doing the obvious things (checking/testing connections, cleaning contacts, etc.) I was wondering if anyone has a defined procedure to troubleshoot this problem. I've searched the 924 forums as well as Rennlist and Clark's but I've found virtually nothing related to this issue. Any help is appreciated. _________________ Ron

probably just a wire that has popped off the back of the tach. _________________ 3 928s, |

924S tach drives from the DME, and lizard may be right about a wire popping loose, but the tach has a connector on its back, and the pin receivers on it may be bad, or loose. I had a bad tach in my 944 and ended up just swapping it for a used one I had. You could check wiring from the DME itself. Also, check the ground for the tach - which may not necessarily be on the back of it. That wire may be good but the problem could be further down the line.
