I got everything I need to do the bodywork and paint on the 924, and I'm thinking of doing the same with the BMW. It's just that it takes so much time and energy to do something like this by yourself, and it's so hard not to lose interest. Another problem is that I want everything to be perfect. I was just going to sand the car down, and then paint it, but ended up taking it pretty much completely apart.
Anyway, I've been thinking of doing something Overhaulin' style. Just get 4 or 5 guys together, and put in a couple of long hour days on a long weekend. The only problem is that I know only one person that I would trust with this and who I know would help me, too. I don't have any money to pay people (if I did I would just hand the shop $3k), so it would have to be on a "mutual return" basis, or whatever you want to call it. A couple of guys help me on my cars, I'll help them on theirs and lend them tools, etc.
With a couple of guys it wouldn't take long to take a car apart, and after a couple of hours everyone would be sanding already. If everyone puts in 10 hour days on a 3 day long weekend, that's 150 hours with 5 guys. Enough to do a good job on a car. I know a couple of people that want to get their cars painted, so I'll ask around and see if I can find someone who is interested in this. If there is anyone here in the Edmonton region, maybe you would be interested, too. I know Chrenan wants to get his car painted sometime, maybe you have some ideas how to save some money and time, too. I think a lot more could be achieved with this then doing it by yourself and struggling not to lose interest. And most people don't have the cash to spend on a paintshop.
Happy New Year,

I agree. I want my car back to original paint, I don't want to see any of the yellow (or blue under that) that is on it now, but doing it myself seems like a lot of work. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

I'd help in exchange for being taught how to paint. Plus, my 944 needs touchups and Mand's 924 needs a paint job. Don't know if I could commit to three days in a row but it would be something to have a good look at. _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

Its too bad I don't live closer to you, I'd definately help you out. I'm not very experienced in body work but I could help take stuff apart... _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

This is cool. I really think that even a small group could accomplish a lot more in less time than one guy himself. Maybe we can work something out then. I'll start asking people. No one would have to commit to a certain time, but just come by and contribute as much as you can, and we'll help in return. I would gladly lend out tools that someone needed like sandblaster, sprayguns, welder etc.
