hey guys i could use some help
bought a 79 924 that was not running, replaced both fuel pumps, filter, and the relay. Every time we try to start her the engine completely floods, gas comming out of exhaust, everywhere. Its almost like the fuel pump is just constantly getting the full 12 volts and not being regulated. Any ideas |

first RTFAQ,
second purchase a Haynes manual, and follow the fuel system tests located in there.
I would recommend that you remove all the injectors and put them into little bottles and see if they leak at idle. _________________ 3 928s, |

The fuel pumps are supposed to run continuously. There's a pressure regulator in the fuel distributor that bleeds off excess pressure and sends that excess fuel back to the tank.
No need to continue cranking it for extended periods - if it's right, it'll start within a couple seconds.
Need to check the injectors and cold-start valve - if they're leaky, they'll flood you and continue to dump fuel into the intake and head after the ignition is off, until all pressure's released. Also check for spark and check the valve timing (timing belt) and ignition timing (distributor orientation). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Sticking the injectors into bottles and operating the fuel pump will also tell you if the fuel distributor is stuck on "full". Mine was stuck so every time someone mentions fuel it's the first thing I think of! Change the oil too (not that I'm trying to teach you to suck eggs). _________________ 1978 924na |
