My 1977 924 makes a medium pitch moan from the rear end of the car once it warms up. This sound is only present whenever I am holding a steady speed or steady pressure on the accelerator pedal. It goes away under acceleration and deceleration and does not increase in volume whenever I turn right or left (like a bad wheel bearing would). Is it possibly the bearings in the drive shaft or rear wheel bearings? Have any of you experienced the same noise? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Probably just normal noise. I get about the same (from my interpretation of your description) from my Audi 5 spd gearbox. Others have mentioned it - it gets noisier with a switch to a thinner synthetic gear oil and quiets down a bit with the recommended SAE 75W-90. If you don't have any shifting problems requiring a thinner oil, try something thicker. I've been using Valvoline HP 80W-90 - still have the noise occasionally. Enjoy - it's just Porsche music. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
