|
|
I believe that the fuel pump is going bad. I can't hear it being louder, but while driving under most conditions, the car seems to lose power for a split second. This happens moreso on big bumps, but also on left turns sometimes. It could be a connection, but I tried pulling/wigling the wires to both pumps and everything was fine. What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump besides the louder noise?
Thanks, _________________ Rob

When mine went, the first symptoms were crappei running and changing sound from the fuel pump that coincided with the poor running. I verified it with a CIS fuel pressure tester - that showed changes in primary (aka- "system") pressure that coincided with the sound changes. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. Mine started blowing relays.
It sounds like a fuel filter issue to me. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

Could also be rust in the tank blocking the inlet, which would be why bumps/turning would make a difference.

I don't like the sound of that. I will change the filter this weekend though. _________________ Rob

Changing the main fuel filter won't help with rust in the intake, (but it's worthwhile doing anyway). If you've got an in-tank LP pump you can remove that and see if there's anything clogging the strainer mesh... _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Two things to check if you have not yet
The fuel pump relay and the ignition switch.
Many times the ground wire begins to pull out from the back of the relay board and you hit a bump... the wires bounce and you get an intermittant signal to the relay.
Same thing happens to the ignition switch... but this is more wear and tear. I have had the circuit that the radio is on go out on mine. Funny when that happens... I thought dang! My new radio is toast already!
I would suggest going through the tests in the haynes manual on the pump and change the filters anyway. It is always good to have clean fuel Though it is a bit-ch to change them. At least for me.
Good luck

I am thinking a bad wire/connection/switch or relay.
Intermittent faults are a cow cos they'll always work at the auto electricians. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

It can't be the radio as I don't have one installed. I will check the relay and wires. _________________ Rob

Haha I did not mean the radio screwed anything up. What I meant was the ignition switch can fail. Some times it is the start position some times it is the run and different circuits can fail. LOL! Radio no in your car... that is funny. _________________ 1982 924

Howdie,
if you carry a lot of Keys on your k-ring the ignition switch will be dead much earlier.
By the way, the noise from the fuel-pump doesnt bother me at all.Mine is singing in diffrent tunes since about 15 years! i think i will die before the dammed thing.
