hello all. im a newbie here. been wanting to find a decent porsche for a while now. almost got my hands on a 951 once, i actually had a 84 944 with a v/6, but it stopped running, had to sell. now, ive found a really clean 88 924S for sale at a car lot. i drove it today and it drives like a dream. shifts wheel, no clunking or anything, motor sounds good. brakes work really good. interior is in top shape, small cracks on the dash, and a small tear in the drivers seat, thats it. all tools, spare, inflator. but, the ac doesnt work, which doesnt matter as this wont be my daily. pass window doesnt roll down either. now my question is this, it wont be my daily, as i have a 99 neon r/t for that, would this car be worth 3500, or should i look it over really well and try to haggle. can anyone tell me what else i should look for? _________________ 99 neon r/t--my first love( my daily driver)
had an 84 944, feel in love again, and lost her
now i want a 924/944 again. |

Im no expert or even a beginner on the 2.5L, but I would ask and make sure its up on its maintenance...Make sure the timing belt, water pump, etc is all done and relatively new. For 3500, if I was looking at 944s, I'd go with the 944 body style over the 924S, thats just me though.
I think you should haggle him down to 3000. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Welcome to the board!
Where are you located? How many miles are on the car?
Sounds like a $2000 car unless the clutch and front end service has been done recently. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

clutch is an 8hour labour job, so remove that from the price unless its been done recently, and cambelt/water pump could cost large too unless its been done recently.
So, unless they've been done recently, don't pay over the odds. Also, if they have been done, are you sure they were done??

Any 924 odometer is probably wrong since most of them fail in the first 15 years.
A clutch job will cost $1500 at a shop, about $600 if you do it yourself (a major job for even experienced mechanics!!)
The front end service will cost $600 to $2000 depending on what parts are replaced.
So if the car needs both, is it worth nothing? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

That's specious.
If, with only a couple of thousand bucks worth of repair work, that car gets you to work and back for three years, where you can earn, say, a hundred thousand dollars, then it's surely worth it?
And who can put a price on fun?
Besides, it's probably worth two thousand as a fixer-upper. If it was in all 'round good condition, an '88 S would surely fetch close to four thousand, maybe more? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

specious?
I was defending my statement that the car was worth $2000 without good records.
I'm impressed you used that word, and correctly I might add!! _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
