| Quote: | Brock was a dominant figure in Australian motor sport, winning the Bathurst 1000, Australia's most prominent domestic motorsport event, a total of nine times through the 1970s and 80s.
He won six Bathurst 1000 wins in seven years, including his victory in the 1979 event, which he won by a record six laps.

brock at his best: Group A VN commy, qualifying lap in '91, had it on two wheels most of the way down the mountain... awesome.

I can't believe it. These people are supposed to always be there.
Brock was lead driver in a 924 Carrera GTR in the 1981 Le Mans race. The car was a reserve car so he didn't get to race. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

Peter was a really nice guy, I used to see him in the pits at the Wellington Street race and even though he was busy dealing with his cars he would still talk to the fans.
Not only a brilliant driver but a good supporter of roads safety and other community deeds.
Definitely a bad week for the Aussies. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,

" Not so well known is that Peter Brock, Jim Richards and Colin Bond drove a 924 Carrera GTR at the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1981, but the car was plagued with gear selection problems and failed to qualify."

Jesus! I hadn't heard about that!
That's a real shame. I watched him race a couple of times. Even said g'day to him at Mt. Panorama while he was doing an autograph session...
Bummer. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

The guy was a legend and an inspiration. My hero and the guy that got me interested in motorsport when I was a kid through his exploits at Bathurst.
This is a real wake up call for me with the Targas - If someone that good can have an unlucky day, it could happen to any of us. It will certainly make me think twice before entering again.
It really does look like a freak accident from what I've seen, and he was very unlucky to hit the tree square in the drivers door.
His enthusiasm and brilliance is going to be missed by all. _________________ Andrew

As a kid my brother loved Brockie, and I was a DJ fan - every year watching Bathurst was fantastic - the rivalry between us as our champions battled around the track.
You'll be missed Brockie...

the daytona coupe is a Shelby design. if you look at it, its a more aerodynamic coupe version of the AC Cobra. I heard this one was a replica from Souh Africa so to my mind replica = fibreglass _________________ '86 944 |

To quote an old Targa NZ press release (he was to drive it here in October):
"Australian legend Peter Brock, who will be driving an Australian built Daytona sports car in Targa. The Brock entry is a limited production 5.7 litre Chevvy powered Daytona sports coupe, and is the brainchild of Motec engine management system chief, Richard Bendell, who had the cars built based on a modern interpretation of the 1965 Shelby Daytona, which dominated the World Sports Car Championship that year. Weighing in at 1150kgs with 250kws of power, Brock’s 2006 Targa ride is powered by the same engine type as Brock’s usual Targa car of choice, the Monaro, however, the Daytona is 450kg lighter and offers an incredible power-to-weight advantage that his sturdy ‘signature’ Monaro did not have.
