So far I have accumulated the following and just want to check that I'm not missing anything important...
Pistons/rings
Rod small end bushings/big end bearings
Main bearings
Head studs
Valve guides
Head gasket set
Block gasket set : Can anyone tell me where the small green o ring goes in the picture below, this is in the block set??
On the list of need to get parts are:
056 115 411A - oil pump piston
068 115 421 - oil pump spring
048 115 259 - tab washer for oil pickup
E 052 115 707 - oil tube elbow adapter
E 059 105 425 A - Con Rod bolts
059 105 427 A - Rod Nuts : Can these be reused??
047 105 313 - Needle roller bearing
047 105 311 - Shaft seal
I couldn't find any part numbers for the welsh plugs anyone have these??
Lastly there parts I am not sure if I can reuse or not in the PET listed as:
1a, 046 105 147 - driver
2, N 023 255 1 - tensioning sleeve - is this the same kind of part as the head locator it is also listed as a tensioning sleeve...?

The green o-ring is for your dipstick.
Not sure what the "driver" is, but I'd have no concerns reusing the head locators - they're only for assembly anyway. _________________ Vaughan Scott

OK, a few notes from my rebuild:
1. "068 115 421 - oil pump spring" I was never able to find this, not from Porsche or anywhere else. I replaced the piston and kept the old spring, my oil pressure readings on the fresh engine are normal.
2. "048 115 259 - tab washer for oil pickup" in relation to this, you will also need to buy the 2 tiny bolts that hold the oil pickup to the block. When I tried to re-use mine, one sheared off when I applied the correct torque to it. I had to drill it out and replace.
3. "Valve guides" I don't see any other head parts listed? Springs, followers, etc? Any reason for that? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Who you calling a dipstick!!
As for the locators I was refering to the one at the front of the crankshaft, it has the same part name as the head locator... like most of the washers are represented as sealing rings!!
I'm still waiting for the head to arrive but on my last head rebuild All the springs and followers were in perfect condition even the guides which I had purchased so I have the guides as these are the same part for the turbo head and the others will be inspected and replaced if unusable... Do you happen to know which honda the springs are interchangeable with?? I'll have another squiz at the FAQ as it might be listed there...
Thanks for the heads up on the bolts, are these 10.8 or 8.8..?? I have an industrial bolt supplier around the corner so I think I'll replace everything I can... Chrenan did you replace your flywheel bolts too??

I think the original bolts were 8.8 but I put 10.8 back in. I didn't replace the flywheel bolts, but probably should have as they aren't expensive. I ended up replacing all the short oil pan allen bolts as I stripped most of them on dissassembly. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Did you confirm what size they are meant to be?? 36.5mm??

I am almost positive the 924 Welsh Plugs (Freeze Plugs over here) are 36.5 mm, I'll confirm when I get home tonight, I need to look at the machine shop receipts to see what they put in. Any good machine shop will replace the freeze plugs as part of hot-tanking the block to clean it, so you shouldn't need to buy them. The ones in the 924 are not unique at all, just standard plugs so the machine shop will likely have them on hand. Just confirm when you drop the block off that you would also like the plugs replaced. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
