Hi: 1979 924 available here in FL. Seller thinks it is a euro version. Any way I can determine for certain?? Does a euro 924 have more value than a US version?? Many thanks!!

The serial number on the block will start with "XK", or "XJ" if it's an RoW car. US version are either "XE" or "XG". Not to mention it should have the sidemarker lights on the fenders, Euro bumpers, no cat, and the speedo is probably in km/hr

Hi: Am awaiting email pics of it. All I could get from a phone conversation was that it does not have the round front side marker lights. Runs but needs paint, rims & interior work The rims have been sold. Seller wants $500. Sounds like a maybe ... after seeing pics.

Hi: Got the pics & now am really confused. Has a rear deck rubber spoiler?? Has but one large windshield wiper?? Front bumper different - has large empty gaps next to signal lights. Front side markers are box oblong ala a 944, but fenders definitely 924. rear side markers are round but are in-line with bumper instead of being much higher up on body. Is this someones custom attempt or a euro 924?

Not an expert, but this does not sound like a genuine Euro-spec car to me.

Much more likely it's a US car with an incomplete Euro front bumper and front wings (fenders). The gaps next to the turn signal are for driving lights. It's probably going to be hard to get originals to fill the gaps in the US.

I don't think the Euro versions are necessarily worth more than the US one; they're just faster and look nicer!

IMO the euro are worth more...seems most 924 owners would love to have the euro bumpers...and I think everyone would rather have 125 hp vs 95 hp.

Sometimes a gray market of early euro car comes to the US and has to be certified regarding safety etc. The round side markers were put on and if removed you will find that the rear fenders are flat instead of indented to accomodate the side marker.
Add on spoiler/hatch a plus
Single wiper Wow never saw this
Check vin number
Engine on the euro would have higher compression rating, same bore
Side markers oblong on fenders
Check Vin number
no cat but that could have been added to meet qualifications
This is not scientific but if the dash is cracked then it is a US car in my opinion. My US car is badly cracked, my euro is not at all.
Fiberglass front and rear bumpers
AS FOR FOG LIGHTS I HAVE A SET FOR SALE TO FIT THE BUMPER.

Thanks Vince, I think you nailed it on this car. The side markers appear to be non-functional "paste ons" From the poor pics the dash has no cracks at all. The bumpers are fibreglass & the front one is busted up with the lights next to the signals missing - Nice to know you have a set, I will definitely need them if I get this car. Am hoping I can fibreglass repair the front bumper. Only one windshield wiper is visible in the pictures - perhaps there are two.

The seller is a Florida based new & used Fiat parts distributor with a 840 Ebay score & a 96.9 feedback score. Also sells Porsches & has three 944's & two 914's for sale (grossly over priced) on Ebay now. Claims he is thinning out his Porsche inventory. The car has no tiitle, but the seller says "piece of cake - I'll get you a title", Grey market car? - I wonder??

Kind of an arrogant, braggard type dude - when I asked for the vin # he responded with: "It is a $500 car, do you want it or not" Anyway, he was supposed to call me back with the vin# yesterday, but has not.

If the vin reads 92491nnnn, I am still a player - will keep all posted as this develops. Dick.

The Euro's also have a transmission with taller gearing (ask Vince about this one), and usually non-sunroof, non-A/C, manual windows, no door beam, different air-box snorkle ... or atleast mine does.
