Hi guys,
I need some advice on this.
I have oil leaking from my 924S engine, well... actually it's a 944 engine.
The oil seems to come out from underneath the power steering pump mounting arm, which is located to the front of the oil pressure sender. I had no chance to take it apart and what the problem is, but I'm planning on doing that tomorrow or over the weekend.
Do any of you have an idea where the leak might be originating?
If I want to remove the power steering pump mount, do i have to remove the timing/ballance belts first? I'm asking cause it's places really close to those belt.
Anyways it'd be great if I could get some advice on this.
Thx in advance[/img] _________________ 1987 Porsche 924 S - Munich, Germany |

Welcome!
The PS pumps have an O ring the seals the halves of the case. It's been know to leak. Are you losing PS fluid?
You do not have to touch the timing belt covers to remove the PS pump. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

hi,
it's just motor oil leaking from underneath the PS pump mount. The PS pump is fine. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924 S - Munich, Germany |

Either it's one or more front seals on the engine, or possibly the oil pressure sender. As I recall, there isn't anything under the mount that can cause the leak?
To get the pump off, you only need to remove the PS belt, but to get the mount off, you need to remove all belts plus the back half of the timing belt cover.
Mine may still have a lingering leak in that area. Hard to say right now, as the replacement oil pan gasket I put in blew out (must be my fault), and so it's pissing oil badly out the side of the engine.
You may be looking at a front engine reseal job; put in new timing and BS belts while you're at it. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Hi and thanks for your replies,
I took a look at it today, and the leak seems to be somewhere between the water pump and the oil radiator cover. Does oil travel through the water pump? If so, than that's probably it. I don't have any coolant in my oil or vice versa, so it's probably not that big a deal. I don't think I'll get around to fixing that any time soon. I still have around 40000km to go on these belts so I'll have to live with the leak for a while... unless (knock on wood) it gets really bad.
Thanks again

The S shaped hose with the spiral plastic covering is a known leaker. There is an update fitting that also is a issue. This hose runs from the PS tank to the pump. This hose is in an area of intense heat and it breaks down rather EZ. Drain the PS tank and degrease all the area then run w/o PS and see if the leak ceases. Can't leak w/o PS fluid. If a leak appears then from the area described I would suggest the cam tower gasket then the oil cooler housing and oil sender.

aweizd,
Here's a no-brainer you can check. IN that same area is the oil filter. If you haven't already - check to make sure its snug. The PO for my car had one of these oil-lube-tuneup places do his oil change and they didn't get the filter tight enough - slow leak!
