out of curiosity I was looking at my mechanic trying to fix a blown head gasket for another customers 944.

The car was an American import that was converted to RHD and complied.

The problem he was having that the Porsche part number for the head gasket was right according to the chassis / engine number but the gasket had turbo written on it and the water jacket channel at the front left of the head was two inches off in the the wrong position.

A) I though it was strange that the head gasket had turbo written on it and it was definately an N/A. Can the turbo gasket normally be used for the N/A?
B) Was there any difference between N/A models in America to ROW that would explain the different channel location...

No biggy if this goes unanswered, just thought I might share. Couldn't remember the other gasket manufacturers either (apart from Victor Reinz)
Stu.

I haven't tried it, but from what I understand the 944 Turbo headgasket should fit fine.

It's thicker, and stronger than the original 944 headgasket. Porsche may even have superceeded the 944 NA part to the 944 Turbo part and discontinued the 944 headgasket.

Did your mechanic have the headgasket flipped over on the wrong side?

IIRC, it's pretty hard to put it on the wrong way, given where the water jacket for the temp sensor is.

Or do you mean the cam gasket? For that one, the writing does face up.
