That last pic looks like a car that was left parked in the Bronx too long.

Man, I wish we had those kind of boneyards around here. All of ours are computer inventoried and want stupid money for parts. Dude, you should snag that hatch spoiler and the five lug off of that car too.

What is wrong with the BRONX? Do you want me and my friends to visit you and break you knees? Take that back or else. You have one second to reply. Time is up. We will get you.

Did you say 1982 944?

That's pretty early in the production run. Like pre-production. What's the VIN #?

I was born and lived there for my first 4 years. Out front of our apartment was the Grand Concourse, beyond that was Poe Park. Behind us was a courtyard where we'd sometimes see an organ grinder - complete with a monkey on a string to pick up the tips. Further behind was St. James Park. I remember being very confused to find a Santa Clause on every corner, when walking down Fordham Rd in December. My last visit was in the mid-late 80's when I just drove up one day for a look around. It was a mess at the time with dismantled cars on blocks along the streets, car doors and other parts leaning against buildings and the walls around the Park Ave train tracks. My grandparents' old apartment was a pile of rubble, and later became a parking lot (corner of E186th St and Park Ave.). -But I took a street level tour of the area recently with Google maps and it's looking much better. There's a new apartment building where gramps apartment used to be. My grandfather used to be a motorman on the 3rd Avenue El - I see they took that down, but left some of the tresles (sp?) up near Fordham Rd. and made a kind of concrete park/gathering area there.

I believe the 944 was first seen in Frankfurt Motorshow in 1981. 1982 was the first year (or maybe even second year) of production. Maybe it came to US in 1983?

Smoothie,

I played football for Cardinal Hayes on 152 and the Concourse. Later played semi pro in the Bronx. We won 3 of 5 championships as semi pros.
We also played a team called the Titans.............maybe future Jets.

Our 7th-8th grade CYO basketball coach and his wife (Fred Herman and Marilyn) went to Cardinal Hayes - but he'd be a bit older, I think in his early or mid 80's now. My mom went to Walton HS. Dad went to Mt. St. Michael HS, then Fordham, both on scholarships - he also played basketball at both. -Then wound up as athletic director and HS basketball coach at the parish CYO where we lived in NJ - where we met Fred Herman along with quite a few more transplants from the old Bronx neighborhood.
