I’m pounding the socket to put the snap-ring back onto the axle shaft to secure the cv joint. How hard should I be pounding (and how hard is too hard)?

Thanks,

As long as everything is assembled correctly (isn't one end of the cv opening chamfered? - (that end goes in first)), pound as hard as it takes to seat it.
