When the AC switch is turned on in my 924, I can hear the blower but no air comes through the vents. What could be the problem?
(Please note that I have an 82.5 and the factory AC/console setup is identical to that of the 924S see photo).

Follow - up
Don't know if this will help in the diagnosis but...
In the past, when I turned on the AC, there was a noticeable change in the engine. Now there is not. Just the sound of the blower, no change in the engine, no air through the vents (heater works just fine)
Hope this helps. _________________ -Stu

no change in engine sound? is the compressor turning on? is the belt slipping on the compressor?...When you turn on the heater do you get heat blowing out the vents? There is a possibilty that there is a blockage in the vent tube some somewhere and or the tube is disconnected. I would check your vent connections first.

All belts appear to be fine.

Additional thought....
Turning on the A/C switch also turns on the A/C fan. If the A/C isn't working (per above), is it in any way beneficial or harmful to flip to the switch and let the A/C fan run while driving? _________________ -Stu

Couple things to check-
If you don't "feel" the compressor kick in, then you could just be low on freon. There is a pressure switch on one of the A/C lines in the engine compartment. If you're low on freon, then the switch won't let the compressor engage.
For the lack of air coming out of the vents (warm or cold) - I believe the later AC system uses vacuum to open a door between the AC blower and the vents. A vacuum can is attached to a small arm that operates the door. I don't know whether having the compressor not kick effects the the vacuum opening of the door? Seems a coincidence that both are happening at the same time.
Speaking of AC - can the seals in those universal r134a kits be used to replace our original seals? Anyone try it out? Or have a source for those seals? |
