I'm probably going to have to get a new clutch soon and my gears grind a bit from time to time, so I'm starting ot think about just getting a new transmission for my 87 924S, maybe a 951 tranny with LSD. What I want to know is will a 951 tranny fit and if not, which tranny (other than another 924S of course) would fit? Thanks _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |

yes, the 951 tranny will fit. The only thing is that they have lower gearing than the standard 944 which would be good on the highway but a bit lazy around town.
Any 944 and 931 (Audi not Porsche dog-leg) transaxle will fit. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

thanks...I'll see what I can dig up
also, does anybody have any rough guesstimates on how long it would take a shop to rebuild a transmission? Trying to see if I can't come up with a ballpark figure for just rebuilding the tranny in there, maybe with lindsey racing gears _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |

Don't you mean taller gearing?
As for the rebuild, it's pretty labor intensive. It is generally always cheaper to buy a good used trans than rebuild an old one. Unless you have a friend who works for beer _________________ Chris

Depends on whether you're looking from the front or the back _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)
