I have another problem. I'm trying to pull the clutch, but first I need to move the transmission back.
I don't have any way of moving the engine block, so is there another way of getting the tranny to move backwards without cutting
the spare wheel well as suggested in one of the how tos? Can I remove the end piece
of the transmission that is held on by allen bolts, and then be able to move it back those
8 or 10cm?

I tried searching for clutch and transmission, but all that came up was clutch trouble, nothing on how to remove it.

Thanks

take ouit the allen bolts or whatever you said they were on the end peice. its really just a end peice that doesnt mean much to me, if im thinking of the same thing that you are. then unbolt the clutch from the torque tube . then slide it back. oh yeah you hafta unbolt the axle shafts from the tranny too.

I already unbolted everything else, it's just the transmission I coudln't move back. I'll take off the allen bolts and see if it works.

Alright, I can't get the allen bolts out. I removed all the other stuff, took off the
transmission mounts, and dropped the transmission as far as it'll go, but there are still
2 allen bolts at the top of the end cover and I can't reach them because the gas tank is in
the way.
As for the end cover, will removing it really give me the space I need to move the tranny back,
or are there any shafts that stick out so I still won't have those
80-100mm?
I've waisted way too much time trying and looking for ways to move the transmision back. Is there anyone
who can tell me exactly what I should do or should I just cut off the spare wheel well?

Everything else is off already. The transmission mounts, the axle shafts, torque tubr shaft has the 4 bolts removed from the bell housing, most of the bell housing bolts are off, and the shift lever is off.

Thanks

well, the way i did it was i just dropped the tranny. but after i did that i realized i could do that ( what i told you earlier) so if its less confusing, just drop the transmission, and slide the bellhousing/tourqe tube back.

You need to spread the coupler a little with a large.. very large flat blade screw driver. Then tap the coupler back onto the transmission shaft... and off of the torque tube. I hope you have not had the weight of the tranmission hanging on the torque tube... some have been bent that way.

Anyway make sure you have a jack under the transmission when you slide the coupler back onto the transmission or it will be very difficult and will also drop like a stone once the coupler is moved.

Best of luck.. I have done three like this and it works every time.

I put the tranny on a jack and slid the whole torque tube and bell housing
back along with the tranny then I could get to the clutch. I strapped the tranny to a floor jack.. kind of tricky though it worked.

I'm trying to remove the transmission right now. I got one of the allen bolts
on the torque tube coupler loose, but how do I get to the other one? There
is another hole on the side of the transmission bell housing, but I can't turn
the driveshaft so the bolt points that direction. I tried to turn the wheels,
but can only turn the shaft a quarter turn before it stops.

I have the transmission out now, but I can't move the torque tube back. I got it to
move about 1/4" back, but it seeks that the torque tube is staying connected to the motor (?).
The shaft that protects the torque moved, and I can see those two studs that come out to hold it in place, but the actual tube is
still connected. Is there some place in the bellhousing that connects the
tube or should it just pull off?

Thanks

whoops, I meant should the torque tube just pull off, or is there something holding
it inside the bell housing.

Are you supporting the motor? If you don't, the input shaft may bind in the clutch.
