Hi all,
I Noticed yesterday evening...that in traffic...my temp needle is creeping scarily higher before the cooling fan kicks in.
It used to kick in just before the third white marker on the guage, and bring it back down just below the centre (2nd white notch).
Today in traffic, I saw the needle get just up to the red, and the cooling fan only bought the temp needle back to the point just after the centre, before switching off.
Coolant level fine. Alternator belt new, and tight. No leaky water pump.
After reading through posts, I am thinking its a wiring issue.
my fuel guage jumps around all the time but my temp needle is always dead smooth.
With these symptoms, I'm not sure what to check/replace first.
looking at the haynes, pg59, fig2.2 i'm wondering if i should check the thermo switch?
thanks for your wise advice guys

Make sure that you don`t have any air inside the cooling system. Any air what in de top of the radiator is (including the location, top left of the thermo switch) gives it a false read out of the temp of the water. The thermo switch kickes in about 78 degrees - 82 degrees for the first step of the fan.
First you check with an engine running @ normale operating temp, that you have no air bubbles. You unplug the red plug on the top of the hose on the thermostat hose. Normal it should gives inmediatly water comming out, but when you have air trapped in your system, the air is comming out first. _________________ Porsche 924 Euro 1977 |

| I had the same issue. I have cleaned the cooling system few times, but that would not help. Then I properly conected the ground wire that is above fuse fox - everything works fine since then. |
