|
|
Seems like my clutch is gone, and I was wondering if a 924 clutch is the same
as a VW one. I haven't checked pricing on an original unit yet in my area,
but I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper from a VW.
I can get a rebuilt clutch from NAPA for around 60 bucks, but I would have to send
mine in, and I don't know how many weeks it will take them to get it back to me. I ordered
a thermo switch from them and it'll take 3 weeks for them to get it from
Quebec or whatever to Alberta, so I'd rather just get the parts or the whole unit
and rebuild it myself.
Thanks |

Speaking from an Edmonton point of view, I order all my parts through:
www.performanceproducts.com
www.pelicanparts.com
www.paragon-products.com
www.tweeks.com
www.thepartsbin.com
The above is also my ranking of how often I use each place, some is better for some stuff than others. I find even with shipping and duty, it is worth the hassle as you get what you want very quickly, and I haven't had a screwup yet.
For used parts I order from:
www.partsheaven.com
They are great, very knowledgeable and friendly.
For the hard to get stuff, or little items that I need immediately (same week) I go to Norden, the Porsche dealership in Edmonton. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

And no, I don't think the clutch is a VW part.
The 931 clutch is interchangeable with a Bronco II clutch if you can believe it, but not the 924. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Danny (Azndrgn) looked up some clutches at work a while back and these were the closest match for a 924NA (they're 1/4" smaller in diameter at 8.25" - the 924NA clutch disc is 8.5", 24 spline, 13/16" hub) -
90-92 Jetta 1.8L
8.25" disc, 24 spline, 13/16" hub
thepartsbin.com
$46.95
87-89 Jettal 1.8L 8 valve
8.25" disc, 24 spline, 13/16" hub
84-87 Jetta 1.8L
8.25" disc, 24 spline, 13/16" hub
That's from - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=9091&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=16
This just covers the disc - I've never heard of any substitutes for the pressure plate, TO bearing, etc.. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Thanks for the replies. I'll take the clutch out and see what's wrong with it.
When I push in the clutch and put it into gear, it's fine, but as soon as I start to let
go it makes a grinding noise. I adjusted the clutch cable in the
engine compartment and tightened it and it looks to be around 140mm, so it is
within reason, but it still makes the grinding noise. So this would probably be
the clutch fork being worn down, right? |

it probably means that the disc is beyond its wear limits and the rivits are grinding into the pressure plate and flywheel, not good _________________ 3 928s, |

The pressure plate and the throwout bearing have VW part numbers.
The disc has a Porsche Part Number.
What does that say? |

The throwout bearing is definitely Audi....I know, I bought one 10 days ago. Although it is a European model so I'm not sure if it can be find in the US. I don't know the exact model because I took my old one to the parts shop and they gave me one just like that...I think the salesman said it was from an Audi 100 from the 1970's.
As for the pressure plate i guess that it could be Audi as well...didn't replace mine because it was in good condition. _________________ 1978 Porsche 924, Euro, NA |
