You are going to get a long post from gohim about front engine service. The timing belt being the "weak point" of the car. Basically, you will need to know when the front engine service was last performed and if it isn't known, you will need to plan to have it done which isn't cheap and it should be reflected in the price paid for the car.

Otherwise, they are great cars and a joy to drive. The only problems I have had have been with hoses (plan to replace them) and an electrical gremlin associated with the oil warning light.

It can vary widely depending on who does the work, how much you have done, and whether or not you use genuine Porsche or aftermarket parts.

Probably about $2500 for a complete front engine service at the Porsche dealership. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

(I went back and looked and someone that did it themselves said the parts were about $800. If the labor is similar to a clutch job, the project would cost me around $1,600 done by my mechanic).
