Yeah, went to the drag track last nite and made 4 runs..
Car performed well, however towards the end of the night with all the starting of the car and shutting it off, my battery killed itself..(I'm sure the fact it was charging at 17+ volts for a month didn't help) I was running 8 pounds of boost the whole nite, except the last run, but I spun then missed second anyways so that run wasn't any better..
Anyways.. My best run was a slow 16.4; with a 2.5 60' I either spun badly or missed a gear..
The track was pretty slick, I couldn't hook up for anything.. My dunlop d60 a2's didn't help my case either...

Umm... maybe it's just me... but there's nothing wrong with 16.4, right? Especially with dud rubber and poor gearchanges! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

16.4 isn't anything wonderful.
N/A is capable of very low 16's, with your 931 the timeslips should be something like mid 14's _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Really? Now I'm really mad... and embarrassed... Like I said, I was hoping to at least hit 15 something, but I was in the 16s all day. But I really think it was first gear and those launches that hurt me the most.. 2.8 sixty foot? I mean it took me almost 3 seconds to go 60 feet, and 13 seconds to go the other 1260 feet. When I go back again, I will have better tires, or lower the tire pressure even more (had it at about 2 .
My friend with a 951 only ran low 15's.. The best time out of that car last year was a 15.0.
Mid 14's with good tires and 10 psi?
Oh yea, my friend with the 951 bought some Toluine from the hardware store, he put some in his tank... Would this help at all? He did it just for the heck of it, but if I'm running 10 pounds, I'm guessing its not going to help much, correct? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Your friend needs to stay away from the internet for awhile, ( toluine)
Stock 951 run 14.7 at best , 2.6 is a bad sixty foot on street tires 2.1 is more like it , you need a little more clutch slip out of the hole , but what is more important to me is your MPH at the end of the 1/4. with 10 psi , a tail wind and a good launch you might see 15.8.
The best i got my n/a to run on street tires is 16.5 @ 87 mph twenty plus years ago. in comparsion my 78 , 1.8 L VW scirroco would run 14.7 @ 91 MPH when both cars where ran at the track on the same day and my 924 was unpopular then as it is now, that is a POOOOCH. hardie Haarrr ,
I have never tried my 931 at the Drag strip, but it leaves 315 /35/17 tire prints for all of first and most of second , it will light the tires on a 1st gear roll so i know the 1/4 would be a challenged and since it is a trck car i have never tried to get any ET's on it . I have beaten N/A 964's and 993 from a 1 st gear roll , playing around at the track ( at the time I/C, modified CIS, Head work , Stock K26, 1.1 bar boost , lightweight FLywheel ) of course a modified 993 3.8 L will see 370 Whp, but i did not play with any of those just chipped stock ones.
It will be interesting to see the speed difference with the changes made as the goal on the k27 is 300 whp. More if for drag use but being a track car i need 300-320 reliable WHP. _________________ 928 gts prototype

Well, if it makes any difference, it didn't matter what my ET was, my trap speed was 87.XX the first 3 runs, even when I missed second gear during one of them runs.. On my final run I missed second worse than before and had to back off, and I had a 85 mph trap, but this was on 9-10 lbs of boost.
So now, someone says mid 14s, and some say high 15's is all I can get?
Hold on, I'll run out and get my time slips to get all the numbers..
2.485 60'
10.699 1/8th mile
69.241 mph 1/8th mile
16.313 ET
87.763 MPH
2.85 60'
16.460 ET
87.412 MPH
2.855 60'
16.524 ET
87.447 MPH
2.719 60'
12.037 1/8th mile
65.079 1/8th mile MPH
17.842 ET
85.474 MPH _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Is this bracket racing...where your reaction to the light can effect your 60 ft times? _________________ 1976 924

It was heads up light racing/time trials.. My reaction times were like .600 ish... They didn't affect the sixty foot times..
I think the problem was, I was spinning through first and shifted while spinning, instead of letting off letting it catch and then shift, but its hard to do because first gear is so short. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |
