I've been thinking and Im sure that Im not the only one who has been thinking this. Alot of the people who use this board buy their lovely 924 cars in less than new condition. And many of them dont know what to do with their cars once they get them. So I propose we, using the collect knowledge of the whole board, create a checklist for things to do with a newly aquired 924 and post it as a sticky at the top of the site.

Sound good?

Erik

That's a very good idea. You got my vote.

Link it to the "How-To's" already available.

oh! i had completly forgotten about the how-to's, serious kudos to whoever wrote them, they are great! however they might be a little bit confusing for a total newbie (remember the first time you opened the hood and said 'what the hell is that?!?' )

anyway, the point is that we should put up something which is easy and interesting to read, points out the main things you have to think about and gets you started with the nuts and bolt aspect of car ownership.
maybe we could start it off in the classic "So you've decided to buy an 924..." all just ideas:

"924 Introduction"
1. History of the 924 - you wont have to do an google search on it
2. Why the 924 - cause it kick ass!
3. Introduction to the mechanics - to avoid the "what they hell is that?"
4. Your first oil change - the very basics, checklist?
5. Basic maintenance - how to change timing belts
6. What to do/not to do - for example these cars are prone to overheating
7. Stupid stories - what does toofah mean?
8. And so on and so forth - all is just ideas yet

there is alot of knowledge on this board, its just very hard to access it all.. its like everyone has one little peice of the big picture, now lets collect everything and make a painting!

Good idea. It would still be helpful to me. Maybe links with more in depth stuff too.

good idea steinbarger,

i guess the first thing we need, most useful, is to make the checklist of things you should do with a newly aquired car. how about making two of them, one for cars that have been maintained and one for cars that have been standing for a long time?

post your ideas or drafts for the lists and when we get enough (or determine we are done) I will compile the lists.

There are some basic things I would put-

Replace sparkplugs, fuel filter, and anything that looks broken/dangerous Replace Rotor and cap.

And maybe some noobie mechanical advice such as- When paths into the cylinder are exposed(i.e.- intake manifold removed) Cover the holes with tape or soemthing. I learned that the hard way.

You master mechanics should probably add some stuff.

Have you guys never heard of Haynes manuals? Or do you have a lap-top handy when you're under the bonnet (hood)?

Only kidding. Some good ideas here. Would take some work to get tham all going.

hanyes is good at showing what to do, not where or why to do it

to get this going we are going to need to organize it seriously, some loose posts wont do it.
first, should we appoint a commite??

Yuk, I hate haynes. I don't think it is helpful for cars that arent running. This pictures arent helpful either. well.... anyway, just my two cents.

Haynes manuals are good for the model-specific information (adjustments, torque settings, etc).

As for the rest of the stuff - there's no substitute for experience. So , the earlier you start the better!
