I got the proper tool and rethreaded the head with out even taken off the exhaust manifold.

Not sure any of your are following this but I am the one who purchased (saved) the 1977 924. Anyway it had an exhaust problem. No muffler will tend to do that... when I got it. I could not hear that the manifold was also leaking badly. So when I repaired the pipes and put on the muffler... suddenly I could hear the bad leak at the manifold. Seems the owner previous to the one I purchased it from did not put a stud back in... and the one he did was damaged. So the threads on both at the number one port were damaged. I purchased a tap and re-tapped the threads... and put a new gasket... and bingo! No more noise. Man I was overjoyed. I was convinced that there was a broken stud at the bottom of one of those holes! Nothing though... Ah it is nice to have a reasonably quiet 1977.

Now on to the rest. Man there was a lot more wrong with this can than reported. At least the seats were good.

Eric

Kinda nice when things work out like they are supposed to instead of turning into a 2 week ordeal!! Congratulations!!

Exhaust gaskets are a real pain, but once they're on, you're less likely to die.
