|
|
| I noticed that the fuel hose connected to the fpr and fuel rail is damp and has a slight fuel odor to it. Must be a real slow leak but I need to replace it. Anyone kno wwhere to get the part for an 88? I was going to take it to porsche but Its not worth the time involved in leaving it there as it looks pretty easy. I assume I have to simply pull the fuel rail and replace it correct? |

The first thing you need to do is determine where the leak really is.
It could be the dampener, the fpr, either of the hoses (usually the incoming pressure hose) or the fuel rail itself (not uncommon, they seem to crack along where the mounting brackets are welded on).
The fuel rail itself is not cheap. I remember checking on the cost, and it seem to me they run around $300 new, or $100-$150 used. Seems like a lot of money for a piece of square tubing with some mounting brackets on it. I have a good spare from the 87 944 engine that I am rebuilding for my 924S if it turns out that yours is cracked and in need of replacement. |

Just to clear things up, that is actually a line to the fuel pressure dampener.
The line is prone to leaking and was actually part of a recall from Porsche if you didnt know that already. Stock replacement of just that one line is about $70, good aftermarket replacements (With high temp sleeving) are available for about $110+ depending where you go. The its been a while since ive looked at the fuel rail in detail, but you may be able to replace the line without removing the fuel rail. It is defenetley doable by yourself with a few line (crows foot) wrenches to get the fittings loose.
Just be very careful, you must address this problem as its very possible to start an engine fire with fuel dripping onto the exhaust headers!!!
Some nice options for aftermarket fuel line replacement are...
