Well this should please some of you to see a post from me that does not involve selling parts, or showing glimpses of what we have been working on here, and will probably thrill some of you to know that it will involve not seeing my posts much at all in the future.
Some of you know that we (my family and I) have been struggling with the health problems my wife has. You may or may not know that we have also been trying to get her through college and into a career. What you certainly do not know are the sorted details of her health, the toll it takes on everyone involved, and the chaos that is involved trying to keep it all together. No one here wants to see that long ass post, and frankly it is personal drama best left in the house.
I will give you the reader's digest version though.
5 years of our life has been devoted to both of the above, along with having another child along the way. The health dx has ranged from cancer to chronic fatigue syndrom and back, but only recently was the dx confirmed to be MS. Those of you familiar with this illness know all to well what it can do to one's life, those of you that are not, you should brush up on it because it affects a large number of people worldwide, and is difficult to pinpoint.
To add to the problems in my wife's case, her mother passed away fairly young (53) from a related disease known as Scleroderma, which affects fewer people but takes the life of the person quicker than MS. Usually within a few years of dx and is very hard to get a handle on. Picture being mummified alive over the course of a couple years and you will begin to understand it.
Now my wife is young, in her early 30's and wants a life, and a career. I want that for her too, and I have been trying to do what I can from home while she does what she needs to get those things. This includes doing the Porsche thing, and taking care of our houshold. You laugh, but try it for a month.
Well, this latest trip to the U of H Medical Center confirmed the MS, and coupled with the family history means that she is not going to be able to do nealrly as much as she had hoped as far as the career. Stress is the #1 trigger for MS and well that is pretty self explanatory, less work = less stress. It's a shame too since she managed to get into a position in her field that few reach by the time they are retired, let alone 6 months out of school.
What's that mean for me, less Porsche and more construction. Sorry guys but the construction business seems to be a little more fruitful, and less reliant on creating customers than the Porsche stuff. It's nice to know that you can step right back into a skilled trade/business and not have to worry about demand.
As for my little pet project, it's now in the other's hands. I sold off what I could from the parts bin, along with my 931, and I am not going to play with this stuff much anymore. I have already peeled away, and I would appreciate it if you could not give the other guys a hard time based on what your opinion of me might be. They are working very hard, and from what I have read, kind of having to defend themselves based on my past issues. Not very fair, but what in this on going battle is?
Not to sound too melodramatic, but I hope to return someday, and finish my 933 (which I will not sell). I say return because obviously the 924 is sort of an addiction for me so I have to put it down entirely in order to free up the time, and half my property. I do have some results from the 'supercharger on a stock 924' to post, and will later on this month. The final dyno runs were scheduled for this week, but I dare say they won't happen that quickly. Hopefully I can find time to finish the tweeking (newly configured blower) and will have what I consider the final/initial results.
Until then anyone else dealing with chronic illness in the family? If so, feel free to post up. It would be nice to know how others deal. _________________ MJ

MJ,
As I said to you earlier, do not worry about how we are received on this board, it matters so little in the scheme of things that I doubt it has any effect whatsoever on how things pan out in the end. You are far too concerned with the little 924, since HBM is more about adding power to any internal combustion engine in the larger sense.
I'll be coming to see you sometime this afternoon but thought I would chime in somewhat on my own behalf.
Chin up!, yeah like that is a problem for you _________________ Sid

Mark, sorry to hear about your wife. I have a freind with a similar problem, and it's really hard work for her, her family and freinds, so I really feel for you.
Thanks for all the help with my car, and hopefully you can get some satisfaction out of keeping one 924 enthusiast on the other side of the world happy!
All the best for the future,
Andrew. _________________ Andrew

I, personallly have been battling Osteoarthritis since I was in my 20's, brought on prematurely by a head-on car smash just after I joined the services.
Dealing with the pain, frustration, anger and the disability itself and trying to lead a 'normal' life are a trial in itself.
I feel for you and your wife. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

You know I am always their for you bud.
As for hard time - I say bring it - most of what people have to say will end soon as we post everything - most that is.
Rather see her well and you both doing well than worry about some flak someone might give me.
In any case my prayers are with you and her and if you need anything, well you know. |

Well, we are in remission once again and the wife is doing OK. As long as she stays relatively stress free she is fine, but with our life the last couple months, it is not easy. Kind of a compounding problem once it gets rolling. The illness makes your life stressful, and the stress brings on the illness. Not fun, but manageable I guess.
Thanks for the well wishes and all by the way, I should have posted that earlier but been caught up.
I'm back in the construction industry but working now purely as an estimator, which is a far less demanding than building homes, and will not detract from the Porsche thing as much as I thought. Good thing because it's like I never stopped. I've got more going on now than ever, including doing some install work for one of the board members here, installing a cage, tweeking some body work, and getting him ready to run in the Cup (hopefully).
Anyway, I'm back, and for the most part never really left. Just took a few weeks to get things under control at home and re-arranged the old life once again. Have not had time to dyno the mule again, but will do so as soon as possible. On with the show. _________________ MJ
