Hi Guys,

Just want to make sure I have things close to correct before I join the head to the engine.

Does the following picture look right for TDC? Front of the head is left.

You have a NA, so it doesn't matter. If you are worried, put the cam gear and valve cover on and line up the marks.

Looks like you're actually at TDC and ready for spark on cyl 4 there. Since the firing order is 1-3-4-2, if you were at TDC for #1, with #3 next to fire, then #3 should have its' intake valve opened, but that's not the case - #2s' intake is opened and would be ready to fire next, so #4 is at TDC there.

Cam gear is from a early car and I actually can't see any marks on it like on my 1980. Maybe there is a paint mark that has since been wiped off.

Smoothie, that makes sense to me.

I think I'm going to yank the cam gear off my 1980 and throw it on this head, I don't like having no markings.

OK, think I got it figured, thanks for the quick help guys. Turns out the marker on the earlier cam sprocket is a bit smaller than the one on the 1980 version. I should have been wearing my glasses!

With the arrow and the marker on the cam sprocket lined up, I get the following, which definitely makes more sense:
